Hello! For this article, we’re going to talk about how to grow your hair faster. Sometimes if I cut my hair too short, I will hope that I can do something to grow my hair a lot faster to save myself from all the insecurities of having overly short hair. Haha. That is the purpose of this article. If you ever felt like that too, continue reading, you will learn something new.
We have to first set the expectation. On average, our hair grows around 0.5 inches (1.25cm) per month and on top of that, it depends on factors like genetics, health, age, and diet. Which means, in a year it can grow about 15 cm on average, a reasonable gauge but in order to achieve the average growth of 15cm, you have to have at least a reasonably healthy scalp and hair condition.
Let me start with something that resonates with everyone, diet. As with most things health and beauty, your diet plays a significant role in both the condition and the rate of hair growth. We become what we eat. If you’re eating healthily, you will have a healthy body. The same goes for our hair too. You can’t be eating junk food and still, expect to have a healthy body and hair. That is unlikely unless you have really good genes. I have talked about this on one of the previous article - 5 food that is good for hair. Do give it a read if you haven’t. Your diet could be deficient in vitamins and protein if you noticed your hair grow a lot slower than others. Eggs, salmon, avocado, oyster and carrots, these are the 5 food that I talked about in the previous article. Start eating more of it and it will improve your hair condition.
The hair product that you are currently using is important too. Using the wrong product will cause a scalp reaction and making such a mistake long-term will result in a chronic issue. I have friends who have had dandruff for more than 10 years because of the wrong product that they have been using for a long period of time. On the other hand, there is also scalp issue such as a dry scalp, oily scalp or conversely, hygral fatigue. Hygral Fatigue is the result of constant, excessive swelling of the hair cuticle, usually caused by over-moisturizing of the hair. If you want the hair to grow faster, you have to use the right product suitable for your hair condition. Too little of something is bad, too much of something is bad too.
One good habit for washing hair is to finish off with a cold water rinse. I understand that it may be a little cold and it’s quite a difficult habit to keep up with. What hot/warm water does to the hair is, it opens up the hair follicles, enabling you to clean the scalp thoroughly but it also strips the hair of moisture and weakens hair strands. However, if you were to finish off with a cold water rinse, it helps to close the hair follicle and this prevents frizz and hair breakage. This simple step alone will make a huge difference to your hair. Do try it for a week and observe the positive change.
When you have a healthy scalp, it leads to healthy hair too. Dirt, oils and product build-up can clog your hair follicles and that leads to slow growth and hair loss. One way to improve the health of the scalp is through daily scalp massage. A short few minutes of scalp massage boosts blood circulation to the surface of the skin and by doing that, it helps to deliver nutrients fairly and it’s also very relaxing. Stress is mostly the reason for hair fall, by relaxing the scalp, we’re are reducing the stress and that helps to promote a healthier scalp condition. With the increased blood flow in your scalp, it helps to stimulate growth and promote a healthy environment for the hair.
In conclusion, if you want to grow the faster, you have to cultivate good habits such as eating the right food, cold water rinse, daily massage and moderate use of products.
