Hello! For this article, we're going to talk about food that are good for hair. Just like our skin, the condition of our hair can be taken as an indicator of our health too. There are a lot of hair services to improve your hair condition but do you know it’s actually more important to strengthen your hair from within? Let me show you 5 food that are good for our hair.
Number 1, this is a common food that we can almost find it anywhere, eggs. Definitely my personal bias as I really love eggs. There are so many ways to enjoy this delicacy, fried, poached, sunny side up, soft boiled, hard boiled, omelette, oh my god, I’m seriously hungry now. Haha.
So, why are eggs good for the hair? It is a great source of protein and biotin, two important nutrients that may promote hair growth. A lack of protein in your diet has been shown to promote hair loss and biotin is essential for the production of keratin. Eggs are rather cheap but eat in moderation please, cholesterol, remember?
Number 2, for people who love japanese food, salmon. It is an excellent source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids and it contains vitamin D too. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in the cells that line the scalp and also provide the oil that keep the scalp and hair hydrated.
A study in 120 women found that taking a supplement containing omega-3 fatty acids reduced hair loss and increased hair density. Another study found that taking fish oil supplements increased hair growth in women with thinning hair. In addition, having a vitamin D deficiency does cause hair loss and other hair problems. If you don’t get enough sunlight, make sure you eat more salmon!
Number 3, the fruit that a lot of people are obsessed with, the great avocado. The single-seeded berry contains fatty acids, vitamin C and vitamin E. Vitamin E is like the knight in shining armor for our hair. It protects the scalp from oxidative stress and damage.
Damaged skin on the scalp can result in poor hair quality and fewer hair follicles. In one study, people with hair loss experienced 34.5% more hair growth after taking vitamin E supplements after a couple of months. In short, avocado encourages new hair growth and reduces scalp inflammation. Eat more of this please!
Number 4, for the seafood lovers, the oyster. Take it by the shell, slurp in your mouth, and enjoy the wonderful taste of the ocean. Good news for the seafood lovers, oysters are one of the best food sources of zinc and zinc is a mineral that helps support the hair growth and repair cycle. It also helps to keep the oil glands around the follicle working properly. A lack of zinc in the diet may cause a dry and flaky scalp and may promote telogen effluvium. (Ok it sounds like a spell from Harry Potter LOL)
Telogen effluvium is a common but reversible form of hair loss caused by a lack of nutrients in the diet. But one important thing to take note is, taking too much zinc could also promote hair loss. Similar to eggs, eat in moderation! Too much of anything is known to be bad, unless it’s cash. Haha.
Number 5, you might not be expecting this, carrots. But the truth is, carrots contain a lot of nutrients, for example, vitamins A, K, C, B6, B1, B3, B2 and potassium. It not only give you better skin and good for the eyes, it do wonders for your hair too.
If you want to grow your hair faster, you can drink carrot juice. The hair contains the fastest growing tissues in the body and vitamin A is required for the growth of every cell. In addition, it also helps the scalp in producing the natural sebum oil which keeps the hair healthy to boost hair growth. Without sebum, we may experience an itchy scalp and dry hair.
These are the 5 food that are good for hair. If you want healthy and thick hair, consider incorporating all the 5 food in your diet and notice the positive change within the next few months.
